Hyundai Bayon India: Expected Price, Engine, Features & Who It Is Really For?
Hyundai has been teasing this one for weeks now, and honestly, the Hyundai Bayon India version is the launch our consultant form has been waiting for. Ever since bookings opened, we have been getting messages like “bhai Bayon kab aa rahi hai?” and “Creta se sasti hogi kya?” So before the launch on 26 October 2026, let carfreaker put everything in one place – what is confirmed, what is only expected, and what we actually think about it. One thing first. Hyundai has not announced the price yet. Wherever we are guessing, we will say so clearly, because we do not want you walking into a showroom with a wrong number in your head. Hyundai Bayon at a Glance Detail What we know Launch date 26 October 2026 Booking amount ₹11,000 (online or at Hyundai dealerships) Engine 1.5L 4 cylinder MPi petrol, about 114 bhp and 144 Nm Gearbox 6-speed manual or IVT automatic Expected price Around ₹10 – 12.5 lakh (ex-showroom), not official Position in lineup Between Venue and Creta Wait, Is This the Same Bayon They Sell in Europe? Hyundai has been selling a small SUV called Bayon in Europe since 2021. But the India version is being talked about as a different, more premium and boxier car, not a simple copy-paste of the European model. So please do not judge the Indian Bayon by old European reviews – the name is the same, but the story here is different. Why Is Hyundai Bringing Another SUV When It Already Has So Many? Fair question. Hyundai already has a strong lineup, and on the surface it looks like a car for every budget. But if you look closely, there is a gap. The Venue is a sub-4-metre compact SUV, and the Creta is a proper midsize SUV that costs quite a bit more. What about the family that has outgrown a Venue-sized car but cannot stretch to a Creta? That is exactly the buyer Hyundai is going after. A few more things are pushing this decision: Our honest reading: Hyundai wants to keep the buyer who is about to leave for a Kushaq or a Victoris. Where Does the Bayon Fit – Is It a Creta or Seltos Rival? Short answer – no, not directly. The Bayon is meant to sit below the Creta and the Kia Seltos. Reports say it is around 4.2 metres long with a 2,580 mm wheelbase and a boot of over 400 litres, which is real midsize-SUV space. [Verify India-spec dimensions once Hyundai publishes them – these are reported figures.] Hyundai is basically calling it the smallest and most affordable midsize SUV in India. So who is it actually fighting? Here is something we think Hyundai also knows. A few buyers who would have stretched their budget for a base Creta may now stop at the Bayon. That is not a bad thing for them – a sale is a sale – but it is worth knowing if you are confused between the two. [Verify current Creta and Seltos starting prices before adding them here.] What Is Actually Unique in the Bayon? This is where Hyundai is putting all its energy, and we have to admit the list is interesting for the price bracket. What Hyundai has not told us yet is the safety story – airbags, ADAS, and anything about crash ratings. We will add it here the day it is announced. Hyundai Bayon Expected Engine Options The confirmed engine is Hyundai’s 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, making around 114 bhp and 144 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual or an IVT automatic. This is the same family of engine you will find in the Creta and Verna, so it is tried and tested. Smooth, simple, and not known for giving trouble. What is not on the list right now: no diesel, no turbo-petrol and no hybrid has been confirmed for launch. About CNG – the reports are mixed. One report says the Bayon will be the first Hyundai above 4 metres to get a factory-fitted CNG kit. Another says CNG is not confirmed for the initial launch range. So please treat CNG as a maybe until Hyundai says otherwise. And if CNG does come, do the math we talked about in our earlier post – the extra upfront cost needs to come back to you in running savings, and that only works if you drive a lot. [Mileage figures are not announced yet. Add ARAI numbers on launch day.] Hyundai Bayon Expected Price in India We will keep this simple. Estimates currently float between ₹10 lakh and ₹12.5 lakh at the lower end, and some reports go up to ₹15 lakh for the top variants. Our own feeling is that Hyundai will want a starting number close to ₹10 lakh to make a headline. But this is a guess, not information. And please remember – ex-showroom is not what you pay. Insurance, RTO and other charges will push the on-road number up noticeably, so always ask your dealer for the full on-road quote before you make any mind. What Is Carfreaker’s Opinion? Honestly, on paper this looks like a smart move by Hyundai. The size is right, the engine is one you can trust, and the tech list is ahead of what you usually get in this price bracket. For a middle-class family in Gujarat that has outgrown a hatchback or a compact SUV and wants something with more road presence, the Bayon could be a very sensible pick. But we are not ready to clap yet, and here is why: Our advice? Do not book just because the screens look good in the video. Wait for 26 October, see the variant-wise price and the safety list, and then decide. If you are paying the ₹11,000 token, check the refund terms with your dealer first. Who should consider it: first-time midsize SUV buyers, families who drive mostly in the city with some highway trips, and anyone who likes tech. Who
